“The Hurt Locker” leads the field at the Oscars with three gongs as the cermony continues, with James Cameron’s “Avatar” so far picking up two awards.
Paul N.J. Ottosson and Ray Beckett won two Oscars for Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing in “The Hurt Locker” at the 82nd Academy Awards in Hollywood.
It was the third award so far for the film about elite bomb disposal experts in Iraq, with Mark Boal taking the gong for Best Original Screenplay, in the film directed by Kathryn Bigelow.
Boal dedicated his award “to the troops, the 115,000 who are still in Iraq, the 120,000 in Afghanistan and the more than 30,000 wounded and 4,000 who have not made it home” and to his father who died a month ago.
James Cameron’s “Avatar” has picked up two Oscars so far for Best Art Direction and Cinematography. The Art Direction award went to Rick Carter and Robert Stromberg; for Art Direction and Kim Sinclair for set Decoration while Mauro Fiore won the Oscar for Cinematography
Avatar and The Hurt Locker have nine nominations each at the 2010 Oscars.
“The Young Victoria” designer Sandy Powell won the gong for Best Costume Design.
Mo’Nique in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” has won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 82nd Academy Awards in Hollywood.
Christoph Waltz took the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his part in “Inglourious Basterds”
“I always wanted to discover some new continent and I thought I had to go this way, and then I was introduced to Quentin Tarantino, who was putting together an expedition that was equipped by Harvey Weinstein and Lawrence Bender and David Linde, and he put this script in front of me and he said, “This is where we’re going, but we’re going the other way,” Waltz said in his acceptance speech.
Pete Docter’s “Up” took the Gong for Best Animated Feature Film. Accepting the award, Docter said “Boy, never did I dream that making a flip book out of my third grade math book would lead to this.”
“The Weary Kind (Theme from Crazy Heart)” with music and lyrics by Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett won the Oscar for Best Original Song.
The Oscar for Best Makeup went to Barney Burman, Mindy Hall and Joel Harlow for “Star Trek.”
The ceremony continues at the Kodak Theatre.
